Guilty Pleasures-What's on your DVR?
Since I'm not home enough to watch TV I record these on my DVR. These are my absolute favorites! I love this time of the season when they're all new episodes. I know I should be cleaning house or something, instead of catching up on the shows, but hey, life is short.
1. DEXTER - (SHOWTIME) The best show on Cable! He's a seriously disturbed serial killer, but only kills bad guys, works for the police dept., weird huh? I do not miss an episode of Dexter, EVER.
2. UGLY BETTY - Can't get enough, fashion, comedy, romance, drama, all in one.
3. PROJECT RUNWAY - The only reality show I watch. Tim Gunn is the bomb! This show gives me so much inspiration to create, everytime I watch it.
4. DANCING WITH THE STARS - I want to dance like that!
5. BIG LOVE - (HBO) If any man thinks that polygamy is a good thing...just watch this show. Three wives beating you up everyday instead of just one? It's a good show, but I think I watch because I'm waiting to see if it all falls apart. (It's only in season 2, so I think if it does fall apart it will take some time) Personal opinion regarding polygamy---it's just a way for these men to have their cake and eat it too, nothing more, nothing less.

Happy Halloween
This year I spent Halloween at the track (race horses). You wouldn't know it, but there are several small children that live at the track with their parents who care for the horses. Theses people work 7 days a week, they start as early as 5 a.m., and since most do not have transportation, their recreation consists of playing soccer or basketball in the dorm areas. This is not just a job for them, it's their entire existence. When the meet is over, most will move on to Houston for their meet, then from there they go to Grand Prairie, near Dallas, taking their children with them. It's nice that we can offer something special for them, even something as simple as hot dogs and trick or treating. Most of these kids don't speak English and have very little in the way of toys and clothing, so you can see it in their faces how much they appreciate just the little bit that we can do for them. I've attached some of my favorite pictures from Wednesday's Halloween party. We had a face painter volunteer her services, Retama Park donated hot dogs and drinks, I did the photography and the trainers passed out candy at their barns. It was the best time I've ever had at Halloween. All of this was organized by the track Chaplain (Chaplain Mike), who is amazing with children. He truly was the Pied Piper of the night, the kids just flocked around him all night.

Chaplain Mike lined all the kids up for a race, I think it was to wear their butts out!

This horse was perfect to play a 70's Peace Lovin Animal. Notice his eyes are half closed and his tongue is sticking out. We think he was smoking something earlier. Seriously though, this horse had just placed second in a $100,000 futurity race! And he's this mellow? Amazing.

What's an F stop?
Holy Cow! I just go my new Canon Rebel xti digital SLR and it leaves me speechless!!! Well, almost...I'm just in awe of the clarity and detail this camera offers. It's my first SLR and I love it. I've only taken a handful of shots, all on auto because I'm still learning and I haven't ventured into the manuel side yet. Soon! I will get there, I have a lot of people that inspire me, they were once in my shoes and within a year they are taking amazing photographs. I can't wait to be where they are now.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch...
Here's one of the first shots I took today at the track...

I'm so relieved!
Two weeks ago I got an email from Etsy, I FINALLY SOLD A PRINT!! (it was the vulture print) I thought I would have been elated but instantly I was stricken with fear. Is the buyer going to like it? Will it ship safely? What if the quality is crappy and only I think it's good? So with a churning stomach, I packed it up, and shipped it away. It should have arrived within a few days, but I got no feedback from the buyer. Oh crap, she hated it! I was so worried she would write a negative feedback comment, everyone can read those! Now here it is two full weeks later and I got my comment! SHE LIKED IT!!!!!!! She said it was a beautiful print and recommends me as a seller! How sweet is that? I'm getting more prints ordered pronto!

Shut that @$%$ dog up!!!
Ay carumba! Have you ever had a neighborhood dog that just wouldn't shut up? But you can't confront the owners, for whatever reason? I have created a 'greeting card' that, hopefully, will end your woes. Send this card anonymously to the offender's owners. Check it out at kimbee935.etsy.com
here's a preview...

My first professional photo shoot!
I had my first professional shoot the other day, it's considered pro if you get paid right? I hope buying lunch qualifies as payment...otherwise, I'm still amature. This is Tabitha, she's our Test Barn Supervisor at Retama and she needed some head shots for her 'other' job as a real estate agent. She asked if I would do them and I said, well, ok! But don't expect the best results, I'm still not that good. We had a few really good ones for head shots then I started playing and came up with this one just for fun...it's easy to get good photographs when the subject is easy on the eyes!

Corpus Christi Texas y'all

My aunt and cousin came to San Antonio last week from California. It was so great to see them, brought back so many memories just hearing the sound of their voices. Since I couldn't fit in any of their suitcases to go back home with them, I decided to drive down to the coast for the day with my boys. Of course the Texas coast is nothing in comparison to the California coast...but I guess it's better than nothing. Here are a few shots I took down there that will be going on greeting cards for Etsy.

My own Project Runway
I love Project Runway...it's one of the best shows on TV. I'm also really getting into this DIY stuff and deconstruct/reconstructing clothing. So, I thought I'd give it a go. I went to a thrift shop and found this camo jacket that I think has real possibilities. I'm going to start off my simply adding some darts to the front and back just to give it some femine shaping, from there I will probably just start embellishing. I don't think there's anything I really want to 'deconstruct' on this jacket, unless I cut the sleeves to 3/4 length? Maybe. We'll shall see, but first...into the washing machine it goes!!!

Signs!
I've been working on a new project, simply called "Signs". It's going to be a greeting card series of street signs and the lessons we can learn from them. I am no poet, so I will be relying on friends and published authors for my quotes and poems. But, the photography is definitely mine! Here is a sneak peek at what is to come...hopefully by the end of August I will complete the project.

If a car passes me when I'm on a horse, I always think: if I were in that car and saw me, I would wish I was me. Wistful children's faces, staring out of the back window, agree.

I can see the sign ahead,
it’s telling me to choose a new direction.
I cannot go the same road I’ve been on.
But which direction do I choose?
it’s telling me to choose a new direction.
I cannot go the same road I’ve been on.
But which direction do I choose?
(you can read the rest of this poem when the card comes out)

Let the Sun Shine, Let the Sun Shine
Finally, a day without rain! It was so nice to see a blue sky with puffy white clouds. I took my middle son out to the river to take pictures (of course he was reluctant, but he owed me) unfortunately the river was still very 'swollen' so we couldn't get any really good shots by the water. I had to settle for some steps on the side of the hill. I love the shots I get, but I'm so disappointed in the sharpness, or lack thereof, in the photograph. I need to learn more in photoshop (and get a better camera) about sharpening. Still saving for the Rebel xti -digital. I need a sugar daddy. lol-I'm just kidding, I would never...well, ok, maybe.

Rain, rain, go away...
So I was getting ready for work this morning and I felt this strange lump on my neck, I think I'm forming gills? I'm not sure, but I know they will come in real handy with all this rain. It seems like forever since we had a sunny day, but I shoudn't complain because, once it stops, we probably won't see rain for months!
I'm getting started here with a few pics that I took before the rain came...hopefully I can add more later. Here's a shot of my cat, Little Man...

My 'puppy' Tank. He's got the sweetest eyes!
This handsome little guy is a future racehorse. It was a lot of fun playing with him.
